Looking for Truth

The pace is much slower in Idaho
Back to Full Blog

Today was a fantastic day.  We have been busy doing so much and still only half the boxes are unpacked.  But… since arriving we have been going non-stop.

We have already put Idaho plates on our car and we are studying to take the driver’s license test on Thursday.  We have to test coming from out of state and being that there are different rules here – we are really paying attention to the state rules.

I love the neighborhood.  It is like a “gated” community without the gate.  Meaning we have a gorgeous swimming pool, a beautiful clubhouse and 3 separate playgrounds with all the wonderful kid play equipment.  We couldn’t have asked for more and we don’t have to maintain the pool – lol.

I am excited about our today’s purchase of furniture for our great room.  I will get it a week from this Saturday as it is coming from Phoenix, AZ.  The Sofa, love seat and rocker recliner are in a soft leather with tones of dark brown and merlot.

The most outstanding difference in people and attitudes here is that no one and I mean NO ONE rushes here and all are friendly and freely speak and share stories of family.  Even the fast food drive thru lady began with “Hi welcome to Jack in the box – take your time and when you're ready to order – just let me know” - Can you believe that?

It like everyone is on vacation and no one wants to get back to work – Awesome!

Lookin':

Moving is taxing but, at the same time, it is exciting. You will probably notice that it is more laid back up there. Fewer people, more time.

Whit

I love the lay back attitude of people - everyone has time to speak and smile and even show some pictures. Now rushing or rude-ness have I found - If you don't think that is strange - just take note of how many people even bother to acknowledge that you are alive as you walk across a parking lot. - I have not crossed one yet that everyone has spoke and smiled - and what a good mood that keep me in! I am falling more in love with it everyday - and the weather is so nice - We just had an awesome rain storm yet in 30 minutes the sun was shining and the streets were dry - Almost like Hawaii

Oh my fiance, Mr. H., would be right with you on the fact that some areas of the country are so laid back and sweet etc... He was raised in Tall., FL which might as well be southern GA and he's lived here in DC for 15 years and during the past 12 years he's traveled back and forth across the country more times than he'd like to admit. He's been to the northwest, CA, LA, Texas...the south....north east...middle America etc... and he will agree,...there are some places (like here) where people are rush rush rush, go go go and let's get it done YESTERDAY and then there are places where it's..."hey sugar, would you like ah sweet tay....no rush, ah'll be right back darlin' ta' take yo' ordah'"

Things were middle of the road where I came from...(Tampa Bay area, FL) and when I moved up here in '06 I was shocked at how rude people were and how frantic and chaotic....

I don't like it up here at all...I'm not ready for "sweet tay and ho cakes" but I also don't like the crime and rush and attitude of the DC area...

I'm hoping, like I said, when the market gets better, to find some sort of middle ground!

I'm the kind of person that needs some semblance of cosmopolitan life...the arts, nice restaurants, museums etc...but with a hint of southern hospitality....

Gotta' do my research...but we're thinking of Atlanta in a few years. Well...we'll see!

m. g'nite Ms. Lookin'!

Everyone has been so darn nice and "rush" free - we have just be so pleasently surprised. Calif' is a rush rush state and even fast food isn't fast enough - but here - we are the odd ones out - and are really going to have to practic slowing down. - How great is that?

Life is good and the weather is awesome

Yeh, again, fiance could relate!! When he used to visit his mom in Tallahassee and now his sis and family in GA..he has to...de-com-press! And get into the slow polite swing of things. But since he's a very gentile man, the polite part is easier than the slow down part!
