The Names of Satan (an excerpt from Guide to God)
After his exile from heaven, Lucifer was called Satan. But he is called by different names and descriptions in the Bible, and each gives a clue to his character:
• Satan (“adversary”) (2 Corinthians 11:14)
• Beelzebub (“chief of the demons”) (Matthew 10:25)
• Devil (“slanderer”) (1 Peter 5:8)
• The evil one (Matthew 13:19)
• Liar (John 8:44)
• The father of lies (John 8:44)
• Your enemy (1 Peter 5:8)
• The tempter (1 Thessalonians 3:5)
• A “murderer from the beginning” (John 8:44)
• An opposer of righteousness (2 Thessalonians 2:4)
• Prince of this world (John 14:30)
• Lawless one (2 Thessalonians 2:8)
Satan’s Character. Satan is powerful, clever, and completely wicked. We must never forget that. He is the mighty enemy of God. Just look at his names; He slanders and lies, he cheats and tempts, he murders, he opposes all the good that God intends for His world and His people. (end)
Personally, I find it odd and scary that some people don’t believe in God and his goodness, yet most of those same people do believe in the Devil and evil. Do “You” think this proves that Satan’s lies are obviously working – or have you become one of the non-believers?
